Setting

A major objective for management of any organization is to ensure that all employees are  motivated to contribute to the realisation of the organization’s strategies.

Organizational performance management is about delivering performance or effectively implementing an appropriate strategy. Performance Management has tended to restrict itself to considering only financial performance. However, the discipline of finance does not provide a sufficiently rich picture of internal value creating processes nor of motivational or behavioral processes that also contribute to achieving organizational performance. In a well-performing organization, all process are integrated into a single performance management system called Organizational Performance Management (OPM).

Antwerp Management School’s new Executive Master Class in Organizational Performance Management offers an in-depth overview of its building blocks and enriches your thinking on how to effectively translate strategic plans into tangible performance. This program enlarges the perspective of performance. It approaches organizational performance from several complementary angles (such as Strategy Management, Human Resource Management, Operations Management, IT & Risk Management,...) aiming to constitute a complete view on organizational effectiveness.

Content

Module 1: Strategy Development & Long term planning

One of the first steps in creating a performance-oriented organization is to ensure that the organization has a clear and explicit strategy. This module provides participants with an overview of market analysis techniques, development of portfolio and competitive strategies, resource-based planning, and corporate social responsibility. Also new frameworks such as Blue Ocean Strategies and Experience Co-creation (ECC) are examined.

Module 2: Creating a Strategy-Focused Organization

Strategy formulation might seem a tough job, strategy execution is often even harder. Therefore, a major objective for management is to ensure that both managers and staff are motivated to implement the organization’s strategies and to embed strategy into daily operations. Methods to create a strategy-focused organization include Strategy Mapping, performance management systems such as the Balanced Scorecard, initiatives management, communication, well-designed incentive schemes that link individual performance objectives directly to strategy, ...

This module covers not only strategy execution tools and methods but introduces also organizational levers such as the office of strategy management ensuring strategy management to become an institutionalized process.

Module 3: Managing Human Capital and Human Resource Performance

Strategy-focused organizations require strong executive leadership that create a high-performance culture. To achieve this, motivation and empowerment of people is essential. This module will look at both extrinsic and intrinsic motivation and how, using the principles of Self-Determination Theory, management and employees can be motivated to internalize actions and behaviors that have been initiated externally.

Module 4: Strategic cost Management

Strategy-focused organizations make use of well designed techniques to optimize financial outcomes. Participants gain an overview of cost and management accounting methods such as: target costing, value chain analysis, standard costing and transfer pricing

Module 5: Profitability and Value-based Management

Building on rapid changes in the theory and practice of management accounting, performance management moved from scorekeeping of past performance to creating value added information for enhancing operational excellence and for formulating and implementing new strategies. In this module advanced techniques such as Activity-Based Costing (ABC) and Time-Driven Activity-Based Costing are covered allowing participants to monitor costs and profitability of strategy implementation. Moreover this module explores the meaning of managing for value creation and demonstrates how value creation can be measured at corporate and business unit level.

Module 6: Short term Planning and Budget Performance

Participants learn about the role of budgeting in performance management and how to translate a strategic plan into monetary terms. Ample attention is given to improved budgeting (driver-based budgeting / activity-based budgeting) and beyond budgeting techniques. Further, the module covers methods to keep track of past budget performance as well as methods to manage for uncertainty such as rolling forecasting.

Module 7: Management of Operations and Supply Chain Performance

Business process management (BPM) is a management approach that aims to align all aspects of an organization with the needs of its clients. This involves optimizing business processes and managing the entire value chain to create added value in a systematic way. Continuous improvement methodologies such as Kaizen and Six Sigma are studied.

Module 8: Managing Information and Communications Technology Performance

The role of information and communications technology (ICT) in creating a strategy-focused organization is critical. This module covers the process of aligning the ICT department to strategy. Methods to analyze and visualize data and to test the effectiveness of the organization’s strategy are discussed.

Module 9: Risk Management

Organizational performance management is also about controlling risks that might inhibit the execution of the strategy. Participants learn how to define and use key risk indicators to manage operational, strategic and company-wide risks. Of course, managing risks is not only about measuring it is also about identifying the appropriate actions. Based on the enterprise risk management framework, participants gain insight into alternatives to accept, avoid, share or reduce risks.  number of volumes2Naar boven
