Mastering Global Business: China

SettingTo help managers and high-potentials develop their international business skills and identify business opportunities on the Chinese market, Antwerp Management School and the Antwerp-Waasland Chamber of Commerce have developed a unique executive programme called “Mastering Global Business: China”. 

The China Executive Leadership Academy Pudong in Shanghai provides the ideal setting for a full week of lectures, workshops, company visits and a tour of the port.

Participants will be immersed in the Chinese business environment and culture. Network events organized in collaboration with the local Chamber of Commerce will also provide a unique opportunity to talk with a select group of Chinese and European entrepreneurs in China.

Shanghai and its surrounding regions were chosen for the city’s unique ties with Antwerp. It all started 27 years ago with the signing of the friendship agreement between our two cities by former Antwerp Mayor, Bob Cools and the Mayor of Shanghai, Wang Daohon. These ties were further strengthened in 1996 and 1997 with a new memorandum aimed at promoting educational and cultural exchange together with enhanced cooperation between our two ports.Content

The program consists of three modules which will take place in Antwerp and the Shanghai Area.

Module 1: ½ day in Antwerp
A preparatory session is organized at Antwerp Management School before the trip to China. This module consists of an introduction by the participants, followed by a small introduction and informal Q&A session on three topics: China’s latest five-year plan and opportunities for Belgian firms, China’s sectors and markets, and cultural differences between China and Europe. The half-day session will be concluded with practical information on module 2 and an authentic Chinese dinner in Antwerp.

Module 2: 1 full-time week in Shanghai
This module consists of lectures, workshop and company/site visits. A small (but pertinent) number of lectures will focus on Chinese business environment, such as China’s competition landscape, legal aspects, decision making process, etc. Also a workshop will be organized with Belgian entrepreneurs operating in China followed by a networking reception. The most important part of this module consists of a number of visits to European and Chinese businesses (e.g. suppliers, producers, distributors and service providers), meeting with Chinese local governments in Shanghai area and visits to specialized industrial zones.

Module 3: ½ day in Antwerp
This final module provides the participants with the opportunity to discuss and develop their China business ideas and initiatives under the guidance of the Euro-China Center (ECC) of Antwerp Management School. Further market research and preparation of a concrete business plan can later on be supported by the ECC within its China Consulting Projects program, for which companies may apply.
